OUR TEACHERS

At Tanglewood Academy, our teachers care about your child’s learning development, character, health and social integration. All of our teachers have a degree in education or are trained in early childhood development. We provide books for inspiration, classes that enhance practical skills such as CPR and First Aid training. Your child’s lead/primary teacher is responsible for the care and education of your child.  They are supported by a team that includes teachers aids, the director and the office staff. Together this team is ready to serve the teachers and parents in order to partner with families to establish a child’s development of mind, body and character.

A number of the founding teachers still teach at Tanglewood Academy – a testament to the warmth and spirit of this learning community.

CARING FOR OUR STARS OF TOMORROW

BEGINNING TODDLER***
Perhaps no choice is as difficult as the one regarding care for your toddler. Our trained staff understands that toddlers need a warm, positive relationship with adults to feel secure and develop a sense of trust. Our staff will respond to his or her special needs, by playing, talking and interacting with each of our Tiny Tots. In this safe, nurturing environment toddlers blossom by experiencing the world around them. You will be pleased with the atmosphere and our highly qualified staff. We can assure you that with all of us working together, your toddler will be loved, well cared for and flourish in our Beginning Toddler class. In this class Toddlers learn their numbers 1-10, alphabets, first eight shapes and colors, as well as begin working on potty training.

ADVANCED TODDLER***
Early preschool is a pivotal time in the life of a two-year old. At Tanglewood we know the importance of making this a joyful time of discovery and learning. We desire each child's preschool experience to be a positive one that builds a strong foundation for learning and encourages a child’s natural curiosity to discover the world around them. In the Advanced toddler class, children will work on recognizing their upper and lowercase alphabet. They learn twelve shapes and colors, as well as their numbers o to 20. Potty training is continued and they start learning to feed themselves and sit at a table. They enjoy practicing good manners and work towards tracing and coloring inside the lines. They are provided with ample play time as well as structured learning time.

BEGINNING PRE-KINDERGARTEN***
Tanglewood’s Preschoolers are involved in individual and group activities in a variety of interest centers including dramatic play, and computers as part of their daily preschool adventure. Experiences for the older preschool child in our care are designed to enable children to learn about themselves and the world around them. Teachers guide the development of physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills that will help to prepare your child for the future. In our preschool class children continue working on their phonetic sounds and learn to put sounds together to make words. They begin working on their reading and handwriting and can take simple spelling tests.

ADVANCED PRE-KINDERGARTEN***
In our Advanced Pre-Kindergarten class children continue working on their beginning, middle and ending sounds. They work on vowels blends and diagraphs. By the time they are promoted to kindergarten, they have read approximately 80 reading books. In math they work on counting by 5s and 10s, as well as time, money, patterns, shapes and ordinal numbers. As part of our Extended Care classroom layout, we also provide a quiet reading and homework area for children to work in. Here they can get a jump start on their homework before heading home or other activities. Individualized homework help is also provided for children that may need extra help with practicing what they are learning in school.

KINDERGATEN – FIRST GRADE***
Kindergarten: Tanglewood Academy offers a strong skills based comprehensive full-day kindergarten curriculum. In a stimulating, learning environment, our kindergarten program continues developing skills necessary for future school success.  Kindergartners enhance their learning by participating in various activities such as school performances and field trips. They are exploring geography and grasping science and the creative arts.

First Grade: Tanglewood Academy students learn and conquer critical skills important to school success. Each student masters the academic basics, but at the same time our first graders practice creative expression through artistic techniques. Their scope widens to their home and community environments. They learn about the Country, they discover American History, economics and geography. At our school, we teach awareness, understanding and acceptance of social and ethnic differences.  They begin to thrive in their local surroundings. Our program is designed to present a balanced study of academics and life experiences. With our focus on small classes and individualized attention, we are committed to the success of all our students.
